Assessing Mental Capacity

A practical webinar aimed at understanding the principles of mental capacity and how to assess capacity for clients who may lack the capacity to make their own decisions.

By the end of these sessions you will be able to:

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the legal framework, including:
    • Definition of Mental Capacity
    • The test for Capacity
  • Demonstrate an understanding of when to consider a client’s mental capacity and the illnesses which may affect decision making
  • Apply the test of Capacity
  • Demonstrate an understanding of capacity to instruct a practitioner
  • Identify, through the use of practical examples, how to determine a lack of mental capacity
  • Work out what to include in your file and attendance notes
  • Identify when to instruct an expert to undertake a mental capacity assessment.

Extensive notes will be provided and time will be set aside for delegate questions
